Good question! In my experience, meditation and prayers do not *seem* to help, but in the long run eventually they *do* help. So it is a question of faith in what the wise have taught. It seems to me that some people have a more restless mind by temperament than others do. Maybe instead of trying to fix it, we have to learn to live with it--without identifying all that mental activity as our self. I mean that we can learn to withdraw our sense of self from the activities of the mind and instead center our being in the Self. I believe it is important to try not to put the attachments, anger, jealousy, etc., into gross action. Then gradually those impressions get weaker because we simply exhaust them without reinforcing them. _______ Get your free @ address at

Many on this list are devoted to Sri Ramakrishna. I personally know of no greater power. Ask him for help - he is a gracious master. jay
Guest guest
Thanks much for the words of help. >>>>>it is important to try not to put the attachments, anger, jealousy, etc., into gross action. I mean, when attachments arise, jealousy, anger, distrust come uninvited. Yet, this does not mean one should not attach to or relate to people or things? Or am I wrong on this one? I have been practising 'sudarshan kkriya' and meditation; I find at times I can handle situations relatively calmly; but most often than not, one tends to take things/life too seriously and get temparamental. Guest guest
Yes, thank you and I shall look and pray to Thakurji for strength and maturity of mind to enable me to deal with the maya games that the mind plays. I am aware it is going to take time, but the desire to overcome is there in my heart. Regards, GW ===== Life is the Almighty's gift. I can only speak from my own experience. I just try, and despite numerous failures, self-restraint gets a little easier in time. I like the way Sri Ramakrishna puts emphasis on cultivating longing for God. I think when you focus on that--on loving God and longing for God's love--God takes care of the rest. One should not worry so much about how one is doing, whether one is doing it " right, " and all that--worry consumes valuable energy to no purpose and causes us to be too self-absorbed. We feel as if we are making efforts, but actually things just happen spontaneously, I think, according to the inscrutable divine Will. What is there to be anxious about? God is doing it all. Still, with longing comes the desire to please Him, and the more we love Him, the more we feel we are not loving Him enough. _______ Get your free @ address at
Guest guest
I just want to write and tell you that I, too, have a problem with a restless mind. My mind is like a bag full of cats. All of you who are struggling, you have company. As for the suggestions, yes! thank you, I will explore all, and I hope people will continue to write their ideas, because I can really use it.
