I belong to an organisation called The Ramakrishna Institute of Spirituality and Hinduism. It is a group that consists of people varying from age 15 to 60. We have discussions every saturday afternoons in a classroom at a local school and here we discuss various issues in Hinduism as well as other religions. The group has been running for approximately 15 years now. The people who attend are quite well learned in the scriptures. We've had discussions such as the following before: Should India be a Hindu state? The contribution of Indian Medical Science to the world. Sri Krishna: The world teacher. The Teachings of Raman Maharishi Hindu views on abortion. The list is endless. The talk must be of duration 15 minutes. It can be light hearted and heavy handed. A mixture would be lovely. Thank you for your time and co-operation, The date of my talk is on the 11th of May. I would appreciate it if you could send me information before that. Once again thank you Namaste. Guest guest
Dear Friends, What can be more complex than even agreeing on what to call Hinduism? As we all know, the word Hindu is not Indian in origin. When you talk about Hinduism in different parts of India, it means different things to different culures. One groups says it is Vedanta, another says Vaishnava, Yet another says Saivism etc. We read about Sankara who united 70 over religions. To make it even more complex, there are those who say Sikhism, Buddhism etc are all offshoots of Hinduism. Can we dispense with all this 'isms and undertake a Pan Indic spiritual study that can provide one consistent view? Regards, Sathia.
