I was once told by a money lending chettiar in Kuala Lumpur that interest based lending is alien to Indian culture and was introduced into India by gypsies who learnt it from the Jews. Does anyone know if this is true? If money was not lent for earning interest, how did the lender profit from his lending? Are there alternative ways in the traditional Indian way of life? Does Saivaism have any views on lending principles? Thank you. Regards, Sathia. --- End forwarded message ---
