Guest guest
Since the controversial topic of " Human Birth and Man " as being necessary is conveyed here in the first sloka, Swami Ranganathananda in his commentary on Vivekachudamani says " The reason Sankara has said this could be because of the lower freedom enjoyed by a woman during his time. During invasions and turbulent economic times its the woman's freedom which gets curtailed. Sankara himself had a woman disciple Sarada, The sarada math in the south is a tribute to his acknowledgment to the greatness of women. " Its surely the society conditions prevalent for women which prompted him to say man..For surely the soul has no sex. But the modern woman today, free in every material aspect need not bother about this. This is a minor aberration as Swami Ranganathanda himself has noted. Sri Ramakrishna had many women disciples who were the greatest devotees of God. Men and women are equals in the path to God. A person who is a man can be born as a woman and vice versa and continues his/her spiritual ascent from whatever form they have taken.
