Guest guest
Dear Jay, Yes, your independence gives you a very broad base and makes so useful in the Master's work. I don't doubt such experiences as the Neasden Temple are most satisfying. Still, I cannot but remark that where the river runs narrow, it runs fast, brings out crowds and keeps people in their places. These are the upside characteristics of sectarianism. Yours ever, Yogeshananda

At times, I have noticed that if I am able to touch the minds and hearts of an audience that belong to a sectarian movement -- then people in authority from that sect will quickly move to stop me interacting any further with their group. What to do? I am led to the exit-door faster than I was expecting : ) jay
Guest guest
Can I have address of neasden temple, regards, Chirag Vivekananda Centre <vivekananda wrote: Dear ListFrom time to time I share my experiences in London with the list. This evening I was asked to address the youth of the NeasdenSwaminarayan Temple in London. This is perhaps the most activeand prominent Hindu temple in the Western world. It is run by the BAPS Swaminarayan body. I was quite surprisedand very impressed to see the activities taking place at the temple.About 2000 people collect at the temple every Saturday evening. This would include around 1000 children and youngsters. After thevesper service, all are fed and then they divide themselves intodifferent meeting groups (called Sabhas). The very young - aged upto 14 will go to one; another group aged 15 to 23 go into anothergroup etc. One of the monks supervises each of these group activitiesand perhaps contributes to the proceedings. I was asked to addressthe 15 to 23 age group. There were about 350 youngsters present.I talked on the theme of 'Contemporary Hinduism' for about half anhour and answered questions for another half an hour.I was very impressed with the discipline and the calibre ofquestions asked by this group. I made a comment that: ' This templeand its work has to commended because here you have made religionpractical. This has been a great drawback in Hinduism - "turninghigh philosophy into action" - the dedication and discipline thatis exhibited here is worthy of great praise.By the grace of our mentor the talk was well received. The monk commented that he will take me up to do a series of talks at thetemple. The reason why I am able to cut across sectarian bordersis because I do not have a 'sect of my own' to promote. This givesme great freedom to talk 'comprehensive Hinduism' to the Hindusin the UK. I am able to give talks to Gujarati, Tamil, Punjabi youngsters (as well as Christian and Muslim youngsters through school assemblies) who belong to a variety of sectarian movements.Today I met a lively, dedicated bunch of youngsters. Such encountersare very satisfying.jayVivekananda Centre London
