Guest guest
An interesting encounter. Dear List I met up with a Gujarati lady (name withheld) from Porbandar Gujarat, who is presently visiting London. She is closely associated with the Ramakrishna and the Aurbindo movements. I talked with her at length about the work she does. Her life can best be described as a perfect example of dedication to an ideal! She has been giving spiritual talks to an audience in London for the past fortnight. At the end of her series of talks the devotees offered her an envelope with some cash. She opened the envelope, added some of her own money to it and returned it to the group, telling them to use it for the work they are doing! In the summer a great many 'gurus' descend on London but none (as far as I know) behave in such an awkward manner : ) I asked her how she was drawn into doing spiritual work. She replied that when she was in the 7th grade (at the age of 11) she came across the lifestory of Sri Ramakrishna. She was enthralled. That encounter changed her life. The moral of this tale is simple : Watch out - keep away from the 'old man' unless you want your life to be turned upside down. : ) jay Vivekananda Centre London
