Dear Dr.Rao Garu,

Sai Ram. Namaste. The part about Saajyamekarthi (or Saajyam trivarthi

as the case may be) is correct. It means the wick soaked in cow ghee.

As far as deepam is concerned, it is Deepam Darsayami (I am showing the

lamp to you). Dhoopam (incense) is to be offered with Dhoopam

Aghrapayami (I offer the aromatic incense for you to smell). Deepam is

for for enlightenment and for seeing things clearly. Why do we show a

lamp to God who is light itself?

In this Shodachapara puja, we treat God like a fellow human being

(exalted no doubt and with all the best qualities) and thus offer to

Him all the upacharas that we extend to a VIP Guest.

I welcome further elucidation by more knowledgeable people.

Sai Ram.

Swamy
