Guest guest
Dear Radhi, Sai Ram. I am not sure whether you got some replies to your mail. Let me try to explain what he meant. Just as an outdated medicine is no longer effective, the past karma is no longer effective after God's grace is obtained. God's grace gives us the Atma Jnana, true knowledge about ourself and our identification with the physical, mental, causal bodies etc. is snapped. So, what happens to the physical or other bodies later is no longer a concern to us. So, we are no longer bound by karma. Another analogy will probably be a little more helpful. Suppose a prisoner is sentenced for life. That would be 20 years. But because of his good behavior, he gets a remission of 6 years and thus is freed after 14 years. If you think of his sentence as his karma, he is freed from his karma 6 years before due. Suppose on the other hand, he misbehaves while serving his sentence. He is sentenced for another life term. So not only does he not get the remission for good behavior but also gets an additional sentence and thus is kept in prison. Similarly, good acts help us reduce our karmic debts and bring us closer to God and help us to get His grace. Bad acts take us farther from Him and make us suffer the consequences for this and future lifes too. There is however one caveat to all this. If one is exceptionally bad (evil is probably the right word), he succeeds in drawing the positive energy of God that much earlier and gets salvation too! But to be so strongly evil also requires great energy and they do in fact obtain such energy through long tapas! A big negative number needs a big positive number to balance and similarly when dharma is threatened, God takes birth to destroy the evil and protect the good. Yada Yadahi dharmascha glanir bhavati bharatha, ..... With best wishes, Swamy P.S: Just in case you are thinking in that line, I would like to clarify that I am not a monk. Guest guest
Dear Swamy I have seen your letter to Radhi with great interest. I agree with what you said. I am the one who believes in performing of acts to please Lord or to take his blessings in order to reduce the negative impact in our lives. " What is destined to happen shall happen " - is- a consolation theory - the one which I do not teach my followers and friends, for the simple reason - I desire my friends and followers to do all good things - think of good things that are useful to self and to the Society without causing any loss or damage to the NATURE AND NATURAL PROCESS and accept the OUTCOME – the result – as a PRASAD OF LORD. When an untodo thing or unpleasant thing happened in any ones life, we may attribute the theory of WHAT IS DESTINED TO HAPPEN, HAPPNED - in a matter of consolation to the person effected say, for example, a person came out of his house and followed road rules strictly, suddenly a motor cyclist came from behind and hit him resulting into some fractures etc. In this case, that person may, for a while feel that he is legal and perfect in following rules, still badly effected by the incident, there we may tell him THAT WHAT IS DESTINED TO HAPPEN - HAPPENED and console him, to bring him to normalcy. That means this theory is POST AN ACT - ie subsequent to an untoward incident and NOT SURELY before that. This theory is expected to strengthen innerself and to seek the blessings of the Lord. Secondly some persons destiny is decided to have good food and other comforts needed and probably if he comes to know of it, he do not do anything that is needed to be done. He can surely feel at A LATER DATE – that the food and other comforts needed are granted by Lord and this is " destined to happen " . Therefore, leaving the Destiny - the ultimate result to the Lord, we are supposed to do whatever we should do in order to reduce the negative impacts in our lives. There are number of stories in our ancient scriptures as to how the negative impacts are nullified by good deeds. We may have to learn a lot from these. In short - we are all 0 s and Lord is 1. If this 1 is prefixed to 0, our 0 gets qualified and like that any number of 0s. When the 1 is suffixed to 0, 0 is 0 and 1 is 1. A secret - TOTAL SURRENDERING TO 1 make itself prefixed to 0 and that is what is expected of life. Guest guest
Dear Sesha Sai garu, Sai Ram. Thanks for the informative mail. I would like to submit the following, not to dispute what you wrote but to simply clarify these concepts a little better for some of our readers. Sai Ram. Whether everything that happens is destined to happen or whether we sow the seeds of our future with our present actions - in other words, are we puppets in the hands of destiny or do we have a free will? is a matter of perception. If we think of ourselves as different from God, we think of ourselves as puppets when we do everything possible and still fail to achieve what we wanted. To do what we do requires thought and then action. The thought is triggered in our minds because of our past karma and is designed to do what is written for the present and the future. " Buddhih karma anusarini " is the adage, which I am sure you are well aware of. On the other hand, the concept of free will is actually designed to help those who are still unable to surrender because of an unripe ego. They are karmathas, that is those who believe in the efficacy of balancing bad karma with good karma. All yagnas and yagas, all rituals, pujas, japa and tapa are based on the principle that the present or future bad karma can be countered with good karma, to elicit God's grace. If the concept of free will and thus the concept of negating the evil effects of past karma through good karma now does not exist, no one will do good. It is the driving force to counter the evil in the world, which thrives on our innate desire for pleasures. Whether one gets such good intention or not depends again on one's destiny. Destiny in my humble opinion simply is the driving force which takes us to our destination and that is to reunite with our true origin, that is God. The theory of destiny can explain all that is happening including our desire to do good or bad at a given moment. All the puranic stories such as Gajendra Moksham, the cursing of Parikshit by the son of the rishi etc. support the theory of destiny. God's grace comes in many forms and that includes hardships. Thanks for an interesting discussion. Sai Ram. With very best regards, Swamy truthseeker123x
