Guest guest
This is in response to Rama nama japam. The purpose of any spiritual practice, as it is the case with nama japam, is inner transformation. Removal of tendencies accumulated over several births and in this one so that one sees the " Truth " clearly. The Truth being the knowledge of the Self. The cause of all suffereing is due to selfishness and fear. Both arise due to the perception of something that is different from our own Self. When a person sees the Oneness, there is neither greed nor fear. It is our own misguided actions that make minds dull and take us deeper into ignorence. Namajapam cleanses our hearts (chittasya suddhaye karmah) and removes the desire to do actions that bind us. (the ususal word used for these actions is Paapam.) Rama, then, verily resides in the heart of such person. God is not someone who keeps count on the number times his/her name is chanted in order to grant protection.
