Guest guest
Agama Shastra give the details of construction as well as Pratisha of Lord in any temple. The number of kalasa on the top of Gopuram is always in odd number either minimum five or seven.it need not indicate the presiding diety is Lord Shiva or Vishnu. There are certain traditions maintained and promulgated by great sages. Say for instance, before stating any yagna the smoke generating elements are added to invite other sages and people around as smoke can be seen from longer distances. Similarly Gopuram is high enough to be seen from distance. The next one in the temple is Dwaja (Flag) sthambh (Pole) which indicates the residing Deity's emblem. Then follows either Nandi or Garuda in front of the Deity. In Lord Shiv's temple there containss Chandeeswar on its right side. It is believed that he announces or gives the count of disciples visited the temple to the Lord by closing hours of the temple. (This may be to inculcate the habit of going to the temple) Aum Namah shivaya
