Guest guest
Dear Friends, Sai Ram. Today November 14 is World Diabetes Day. I send my greetings to all those who have this health challenge. Diabetes is basically of two types, type 1 and type 2. The Type 1 diabetes is because of problem with pancreas which causes insulin production to stop or reduce drastically. These patients need insulin through out their life. With the right management, they can lead a 'normal' life. Type 2 diabetes is more a life-style problem, in the sense that stress, sedentary life style and wrong food (too much sugar, too refined food without adequate fiber) are the main factors in causing this where the insulin secreted by pancreas is not effective in controlling blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is thus amenable to better non-medical management by changing one's thinking, food and exercise habits. De-stressing through Yoga, Reiki and other holistic, non-medical methods is important. Bhakti is very important in stress management! Diabetes, left untreated or poorly managed can result in damage to blood vessels and nerves. More natural foods (not too much refined), adequate fiber, use of less sugar or sugar substitutes like Stevia (NOT ASPERTAME AND SUCRALOSE etc.) and exercise will help keep the medicines away or minimise medication and complications. Pl. accept this challenge as an opportunity to introduce some basic life style changes. Best wishes to all diabetics and their care givers. Sai Ram.
