Guest guest
Is Ramayana an epic based on puranas in the same genre with Mahabharatha? Ramayana is atleast a milleneum older than Mahabaratha. Puranas were formulated later than Ramayana. Then on What is Ramayana based? It is faithfully based on Rigveda. There are three interpretation to Rigveda-Adhiyagna,Adhidevata and Adyatmica. They varily differ in their contents. The Adyatima basis of interpretation was advocated by ancient greats Yaska,Saunaka and the moderns like Sri Aurobindo and Kapali Shastriar. A superficial study of any of their works will reveal the thematic base which the great sage Valmiki captured in his epic. Rigveda by Adyatmica interpretation is little diffcult for the layman to follow. Sage Valmiki did a yoeman servive by creating the epic faithfully according to the tenets of Rigveda! C. S.
