Guest guest
Dear Bhagavat Banduvullara, BHISHMA'S BELIEF IN VEDAS Here is a small story which is significant to show how Bhishma followed Vedas and its essence to its minutest details. When King Santanu passes away, Bhishma was doing Sharadda Karma. At the time of Pinda Pradhanam, Shantanu's hand appeared as he is a Punya Purusha asked the Pindam to be given to him in his hand. Bhishma knowing the Vedas and Sastras, set aside the King Santanu's hand and kept the Pindams only on Dharbhas as is mandatory during Sharadda Karma, saying that " Sastras ordains me to put Pindas on Dharbhas (Holy grass) only, and not to give in hand to you " . So as per Sastras, he declined to give the Pinda to his father's hand, as it is wrong to give in hand. The Devas watching Bhishma's Dharma and his astounding belief in Vedas, showered flowers on him yet another time.
