Question: When God cannot be seen by meritorious deed, then how can

He be seen ?

Lord Krishna suggests the way -

" By unswerving and exclusive devotion only, can I be seen in this

form (with four arms) and known in its essence, can one merge into Me

and attain Me " (Gita 11:54)

" Bhaktyaa tvananyayaa sakya ahamevamvidho' rjuna

Jnaatum drastum ca tattvena pravestum ca parantapa. " (Gita 11:54)

Here the term exclusive devotion means, dependence on God alone. It

also means expectation from only God, faith in only Him, reliance on

only Him, without having the least dependence on or importance of

one's own ability, power, intellect or resources etc. in the inner

faculty (antahkarna) . This exclusive devotion is not determined

either by the mind or intellect or senses etc, but by one's own Self.

Restlessness for a vision of God, is the main cause in attaining God

Realization. One does not feel at ease without His vision, even for a

moment. This kind of restlessness for the Lord, burns away the sins

of infinite births. For such a devotee, with exclusive devotion for

God, the Lord has declared - " He who always and constantly thinks of

Me with exclusive devotion, to that Yogi always absorbed in Me, I am

easily attainable " (Gita 8:14); and " To those who worship Me alone,

thinking of none else, ever devout, I provide security and gains. "

(Gita 9:22)

Exclusive dependence also means, no dependence on adoration or

meditation or spiritual discipline for realizing God. Then the

question may arise, why is one to do spiritual practices such as

worship and meditation on the Lord? Simply to wipe out one's pride.

i.e. to wipe out the subtle awareness within of the strength that

remains, that feeling within that by doing these spiritual practices,

I will attain the Lord. When pride is destroyed, the Lord's grace

manifests itself and it is by His grace that a devotee attains Him.
