Guest guest
Priya Bhagavat Banduvullara! THE BEST FROM OUR SCRIPTURES – 3 PRANAYAMA (CAUTION: ENTIRE THIS PORTION IS ONLY FOR INFORMATION. THE PRANAYAMA HAS TO BE PRACTICED UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF A GURU ONLY) There are two causes that make the mind wander around: (1) Vasanas – desires that are produced by the latent impressions of feelings, and (2) breathing. If one is controlled, the other automatically gets controlled. Of these two, breath should be controlled first. (Yogakundalyupanishad (1.1-2) The breathing process creates images in the mind. When breath becomes clam mind also becomes calm. (Yogakundalyupanishad 89) The control of breath causes both physical and mental development. (Varahaupanisahd 5.46-49) When the nadis are purified by nadishodhana pranayama, the prana enters sushumna with a force and mind becomes calm. (Shandilyopanishad 1.7.9.10) Assume first a yoga posture (asana); Keep the body erect, let the eyes be fixed and jaws relaxed So that the upper teeth do not touch the lower teeth. Turn back the tongue Use the chin lock (jallunderbandha) And your right hand to breathe through any nostril at will; Keep the body motionless and mind at ease. Then practice Pranayama (Trishikhibrahmanopanishad, mantra section 92-94) First exhale the air from the lungs through the right nostril by closing left nostril with the fingers of the right hand. Then inhale through the left nostril counting 16 –0 then suspend the breath counting 64 – then exhale through the right nostril, counting 32. (Trishikhibrahmanopanishad, mantra section 95 - 98) Ten forms of prana are controlled by Pranayama: (1) Prana, (2) Apana, (3) Samana, (4) Vyana, (5) Udana, (6) Kurma, (7) Krikila, (8) Naga, (9) Dhananjaya, and (10) Deva Dutta. (Mundamala tantra, chapter 2, P.3) By pranayama the throbbing of the prana is controlled and the mind become calm.
