THE BEST FROM OUR SCRIPTURES - 3 (PART TWO ) PRANAYAMA CAUTION : TAKE GUIDANCE OF A GURU BEFORE PRACTICE. By pranayama the internal impurities are removed. It is the best yoga practice. Without its help liberation is not possible. (Gandharva tantra, Chapter 10, P.47) By pranayama the mind and the senses are purified. (Kularnava tantra, chapter, 15, P.75) One who is healthy, eats moderately and can control the breath becomes a yogi. He who is clean and practices sexual control is able to control breath. Regular practice is absolutely necessary. Yoga is not possible without pranayama. (Rudrayamala tantra, Part 2.17.40—43) In the first stage of pranayama perspiration occurs, in the second stage the body shakes, in the highest or third stage the body levitates. Pranayama should be practiced regularly until the third stage is reached. (Sharadatilaka 25.21—22) When breath control is perfected, the body becomes light, countenance becomes cheerful, eyes becomes bright, digestive power increases and it brings internal purification and joy. (Grahayamala tantra, chapter 13, P.102)
