Guest guest
THE BEST FROM OUR SCRIPTURS - 6 DHYANA (MEDITATION) Eyes cannot see the Supreme Being nor can words express it—nor can it be reached by other senses and cognitive faculties. The Supreme Being is only revealed in dhyana. Dhyana (True Meditation) is only possible when consciousness is spiritualized by purity of knowledge of the self. (Mundakopanishd 8.1.8) Dhyana is concentration on the divine being, who is quiescent, luminous, pure, and blissful in the hrit center (Spiritual heart) (Kaivalyopanishad 5) Concentration on the universal form of God, realized by concentration on mantra and then concentrating on God without form is Dhyana. (Darshanopanishad 9.1—2—3—5) When concentration reaches the phase of nondual consciousness (seeing the Supreme Being abiding in each and every particle), that is dhyana. (Manila Brahamanopanishad 1.1.9) Dhyana is of two type: (1) Saguna Dhyana, meditation on God with form and attributes, and (2) Nirguna Dhyana, meditation on God without from and attributes. Doing breath suspension and meditation on the deity is Saguna Dhyana and meditation on the Supreme Being without form is Nirguna dhyana. Nirguna Dhyana leads to Samadhi. (Yogatattvopanishad 105) Dhyana is to hold the form of the deity in the consciousness without interruption. (Prapanchasara Tantra Dhyana is concentration on the form of the deity of the Mantra.
