CHYAVANA is a BHAARGAV , that is a descendent of BHRIGU MAHARSHI. Actually CHYAVANA is the son of BHRIGU and PULOMA DEVI. CHYAVANA means one who is born Prematurely before the full term. When Srimathi PULOMA was in Her Third Trimester carrying CHYAVANA, and when Bhrigu is away in forest engaged in Thapas (Meditation), Puloma was frightened by a Raakshas and She Prematurely delivered CHYAVANA. CHYAVANA is known for His Trademark CHYAVANA PRAAS , an AAYURVEDIC Lehyam (Elixir) , known for its Medicinal Properties for Health , Vitality, Youthfulness and Prolongation of Life Span . The Recipe for ChyavanaPraas was given to CHYAVANA by Celestial Physicians ASWINI Twins , sons of Soorya Bhagawaan. Bhrigu , CHYAVANA MAHARSHI and all their descendents i.e. BHAARGAVAS are all SHIVA BHAKTHAS and they all have some reservations regarding VISHNU. Let us go to the beginning and know about famous Bhaargavas. Bhrigu is the son of Brahma ; Bhrigu had three wives - Ktrathu, Vusana and Puloma Bhrigu+Krathu - Son Vidhaatha; Vidhaata's Son Mrukanda; and Mrukanda's Son is Chiranjeevi MAARKANDEYA. Bhrigu+Vusana - Son SUKRAACHAARYA , Guru of Daithyas and Daanavas. Bhrigu+Puloma - Son CHYAVANA MAHARSHI Bhrigu's Second wife Vusana, mother of Sukraachaarya was killed by VISHNU as She was helping Daithyas and Daanavas , in the absence of her Son Sukraachaarya. Sukraachaarya was blinded in one eye by Vaamana (Vishnu) Parasu Raama ( Bhaargava Raama ) is Vishnu, but a Shiva Bhaktha , was humbled by by Dasaratha Raama (Vishnu) who broke Shiva Dhanush , a favorite of Parasu Raama. Naturally Bhrigu was very upset and from then onwards all Bhaargavas are a little cool towards Vishnu. Incidentally Bhrigu is responsible for the migration of Vishnu from Vaikunttam to Kaliyuga Bhoo Vaikunttam Thirumala and we are all thankful to Bhrigu for giving us Thirupathi - Thirumala BAALAAJI. Om Namo NaaraayaNa. Now back to CHYAVANA MAHARSHI. CHYAVANA is so immersed in His Thapas , He became old and was covered over by an ant hill except for holes for breathing and holes through which His eyes were shining. A princess, by name Sukanya looked into the ant hill , mistook CHYAVANA's Eyes for fire flies and pierced them with a sharp pointed stick and blood started oozing out ; this frightened all the body guards of Sukanya who dug out the ant hill and lo and behold they found CHYAVANA , old , emaciated with bleeding eyes . Sukanya's father came and apologised to CHYAVANA and as a token of penance offered Sukanya to wed and look after CHYAVANA . Sukanya prayed to ASWINI TWINS who were pleased with her chastity and devotion and Blessed CHYAVANA with normal vision , youth and health. As a token of appreciation CHYAVANA promised ASWINIS with a share in Soma and offerings in Yajnams which until then was not allowed , for reasons known only to himself, by Indra . Indra was upset with CHYAVANA , tried his best to dissuade CHYAVANA and even ordered CHYAVANA to refrain from doing so. Ofcourse CHYAVANA ignored Indra and went ahead in His noble task of helping Aswini Twins and succeeded .. Indra's power was helpless before CHYAVANA's Thapo Shakthi. OM THATH SATH. CHYAVANA and Sukanya were blessed with sons Dadheechi Maharshi , Pramathi and Apnavaana . Dadheechi's progeny are Saaraswatheeyas and Pippalaada,a Vedic Rushi. Nothing much is known about Pramathi to the best of my Knowledge. Apnavaana fathered JAMADAGNI , father of BHAGAWAAN PARASU RAAMA. BHAARGAVAS FROM BHRIGU ONWARDS BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE OF US Om Shaanthi; Om Shaanthi; Om Shaanthi . Wisdom belongs to Rushis.
