SRI MAATRE NAMAHA

SAALIGRAVA PAREEKSHA

Most of the hindus worships Lord VISHNU in the form of Black

stone( Saligravam ) as He was awarded 'SAAPAM' by BRINDA DEVI( SRI

TULASI MATA). Lord VISHNU also feel happy to be worshipped in the

form of SALIGRAVAM and to wear TULASI MAALA which shall be prepared

from TULASI tree.

But generally most of Hindus spell that SALIGRAVAM as

SALIGRAMAM which is not correct. What is the meaning of SALIGRAVAM ?.

'SALI' means paddy ( 'vadlu' in telugu ). 'GRAVAM' means

weight.Any personn wants to worship Lord VISHNU in the form of

SALIGRAVAM he has to follow the proceadure to test that saligravam

on the first day itself. That test clearly indicate whether that

saligravam is suitable to him and his family or not. There are number

of saligravas such as Sudarshana, Vasudeva, Laskshmi Narayana and

Sri Kurma etc., and the worshipper should select a suitable

saligrava.

On the first day of getting saligrava the 'gruhashth' should

weight that saligrava with sali (paddy). After recording exact

weight with paddy he has to keep that saligrava on the same paddy

itself and to begin worship. He has to keep that saligrava on the

paddy on that night. Next morning he has reweight the saligrava with

the same paddy. There must be some change in the weight of paddy or

saligrava. If the paddy weight is increased the gruhasth may keep

that saligrava in his house and continue his worship. If the weight

of saligrava is increased he has to think that the specific

saligrava is not suitable to him and his family and he has to keep

it in a local siva temple or vishnu temple or it shall be dropped in

holy rivers like Ganga and yamuna etc.

Saligravas are available in the River GANDAKI in NEPAL.
