Here the pious duties (Kartavyam Uttamam) of a physician (Bishak)

are enumerated. Doctor's services are considered to be the noblest

of all professions. Hence it is called `Vaidyo Narayana

Harihi', " physician is a God indeed " . While the creator gives life

to all things and the author of the whole world, the physician,

enters the picture when man, created by the Lord, falls sick and

about to lose his being. So the physician here is termed next to

God. And what are his duties? " Yogaksheme Sareerasya , Swabhavatah

Parikalpitaa, Swabhavasyatu saahayamm, Kartavyam Bishguttamum " The

physician's prime duty is to help promote the internal nature of man

(swabhava pari kalpataa) understand using his (the patient's) ways.

 

Here the ideal of a physician is given. The doctor should help his

patient to promote his health, by his keen perception and sound

knowledge of the internal bioforces.
