Guest guest
Dear Murthy Garu, Love and Love alone.... Though you asked Sri Raghava Rao, for the meaning of the following sloka in Sri Vishnu Sahasranamams, I am inspired to give you a reply. Kindly forgive me for taking this liberty and also bless me, if you are satisfied with the explanation. asoka stharana stharah sura souri rjaneswaraha!!! anukoola sathavarthah padmi padma nibhekshnah!!! Asoka: Meaning: One who is beyond soka or sorrow. One who has no sorrows at all. Always in happy mood. A Little Commentary: One gets sorrow when one's mind is extremely disturbed. And these disturbances of the mind come from desires. This nama, therefore, indicates that one should grow beyond the " negative tendencies " of " desire " . How it is possible? It is possible only when one does not desires at all. Taaranah One who helps the devotee to cross over. One who enables others to cross. The devotee, who grows beyond the state of desires, as explained in the previous nama, will be helped to cross over the samsara samudram. Due to ego, man identifies oneself with the objectives or possessions and gets disturbed in their loss. This is ego and getting connected to wrong things. If one outgrows this tendency, what he will find is " loss of sorrow " , i.e., peace of mind. When one worships with peace of mind, one gets the Ultimate. That is taarana. Taarah The Saviour. One who saves. God saves the devotee from the fear of death and re-birth, being his constant protector. When the devotees calls upon God again and again, He takes over the responsibility of saving the devotee on HIM. So, He is the Saviour. Surah The Valiant. He is valiant to crush all wrong-doings, all evil-forces, all unrighteous actions, however well-trenched they may be, in the world. Being the in-dweller of all, HE naturally crushes the negative tendencies in us too, over a period of time, depending on our shraddha. Sourih Having born in the family of Soora, He is termed as " Sourih " . Janeswarah Leader or Head of people or devotees. He is the Lord of the people. He is the Lord of all creatures born in this universe. Anukoolah A friend, a well-wisher of all. He is the only real friend of any jiva, whether one is a devotee or not. He, being the provider of prana, is friend to every creature in this universe. He helps all and rejects none, though He is not connected with any one. He is a friend and devoted ally to every one, since HE is the power behind all vasanaas. Sathaavarthah One who takes innumerable or infinite varieties of forms. HE IS. His manifestation if the universe. He is Sahasrasheersha Purusha, as in Purusha Sooktam, though HE is always beyond it. He takes innumerable incarnations to maintain and protect the Dharma. One more way of looking at it is that, He being the praana, moves in innumerable naadees in all creatures. Padmi One who has the lotus in His hands. Lotus symbolises how one should live in this world, with complete detachment. Lotus is the symbol of our culture and goal of spiritual life. One who successfully learns to develop vairagya (detachment), he reaches HIS abode. Padma-nibhekshanah One whose eyes are as beautiful as the Lotus. Lotus-eyed. Again, it symbolises vairagya. One has to look at this world with detachment. Of all the indriyas, the panchedriyas are very important and the eye is the most important one. So, let us remember that whatever we see, we should not get attached to it. I hope I have fulfilled your desire. If so, kindly bless me. Love and Love alone..... P.
