Guest guest
PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA! RISHI VANI - 42 COURTESY: SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO GRIHE VASANTUNO ATIDHIHI --Adharvana Veda 10-104 " Let there be guest(s) (Atidhi) in your house residing (Grihe Vasantuno) " is the generous Vedic saying with great social significance. Inviting guests to home is a welcome social communication which promotes social integration. Receiving guests and serving them cordially broaden the horizon of the host and leaves a healthful mark on the part of the host. Living alone in a cloistered way without social rapport is not a healthy indication both to the individual and to the society at large. `May a guest be in your house', thus proves to be great Vedic counsel for a sound social interaction between the individual and his community. Hence another Vedic saying supportingly states " Atidhi Devo Bhava " " Your guest is your God (for the time being) " . Such significance is attached to the receiving and treating of the guests in one's household. This way we rid ourselves of our personal priorities for while in treating our guests. It is a pleasure for the host when his guest considers his stay as a pleasurable one. " Treat a guest in your house " is thus a great social norm.
