Guest guest
Wife of Socrates had a very cruel and harsh nature. She stopped her husband from doing welfare works and cursed all those who visited him. She thought that all he did was waste of time and energy. One day Socrates was involved in a religious discussion with some visitors. His wife in a fit of anger threw dirty water from the rooftop over the participants and started calling them names. The visitors felt very insulted. Socrates acted with wisdom and wit. He turned their anger into light humour. Smilingly he said, " Today the proverb which says that barking dogs seldom bite has been proved wrong- here barking and biting have both happened together. " All the anger turned into laughter. Wet clothes were put up for drying and the symposium started again in a calm atmosphere. Because of his equanimity Socrates' married life passed peacefully. His wife's nature also changed gradually and later she lived with him as an ideal life companion. Conclusion: One is always remembered for how he lived his life, and not how long he lived.
