Guest guest
PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA! VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 49 COURTESY SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO TASYA VAACHAKAHA PRANAVAHA --PATANJALI YOGA SUTRA " The word is Om " . Pranava or `Om' is the first word or the nucleic word of creation. It is said that from this single letter and from the single sound the cosmos has taken its origin. Hence `Om' the single sounding word occupies a special significance in all Vedic texts. All the mantras or the Vedic verses begin with the word `Om'. It is said it has a beneficial, purifying influence on the mind of man and also a panacea to the ecological disturbances or pollutions of the environment. It is said the chanting of the word `Om' or the concentration of our mind on the sound of this word brings forth immense peace to the mind of man beyond the description of words. No exaggeration to say that the whole Vedic heritage revolves round the word `Om'. It is also difficult to define whether `Om' is a word or a state of inward silence bringing forth peace and harmony to the aspirant. Patanjali Maharshi, the greatest pioneer among the yoga practitioners incorporated all his invaluable findings (darsanas, intuitive observations) in his immortal writing known as " Patanjali Yoga Sutras " . It is a book to be read by all eager aspirants. Bible starts saying that in the beginning there was the word. And similarly Vedas and Yoga go a step further saying that `Om' is the eternal word or sound.
