PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA!

VOICE OF THE RISHIS:

COURTESY: SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO

TUSHTAH PUSHTAH SUBHESHANAHA

--VISHNU SAHASRANAAMAM

Lord Vishnu is praised with 1008 names signifying his varied

glorious traits as revealed in his treatment towards his disciples.

The devotees chant these as attribute names in temples, and on other

holy occasions not merely to cajole God and obtain His gifts, but to

remember Him as emulated by man. God's great qualities are praised

by the devotees not really to get personal benefits from Him. They

are chanted in hymns, songs, etc in order that man too may follow or

adopt those godly traits in life. There are innumerable noble

traits in God to be aspired for, and to be adopted by man.

Among them, " Thushtah, Pushtah, Subheshanaha " is His beautiful and

admirable trait for our consideration. Lord is said to be as a

Personality of Complete contentment (Tushtah) strong and symmetrical

in form (pushta), and with glorious sweet looks (subhekshnah). This

is the created picture of the body language of the Lord, as one with

happy contented and blissful looks. His Beatitude in this form and

looks, signifies to us that man too imagine this way.

This should look good and great with looks of beneficence to

mankind. It is not sad, morose, crying picture that is invoked

here. But an image of beauty and benevolence for emulation that is

suggested in this text. He is Sat yam, Siam and Sandarac.
