After giving up selfishness and egoism, a man's main spiritual duty

is to promptly fulfill his own duty, and at no time to ever give any

one, the least bit of unhappiness. To look at someone else's duty or

to criticize and complain about another, disrespecting others is not

anyone's spiritual and religious duty (dharma). In reality, dharma is

that which uplifts and benefits ourselves and others, that which

benefits in the present and in the future (effect), That which

benefits all in this world and in world's beyond -

" Yatobhyudayanih shreyasasidhah sa dharmah " (Vaisheshik 1:2)

Lord says to Arjuna -

" Hato va prapyasi swargajitvaa vaa bhoksyase maheem

tasyaamduttishtha kaunteya yudhyaa krtanishchayah. " (Gita 2:37)

" Even if you are killed in battle, then you will attain the heavens,

and even if you win in battle, then too you will enjoy being the

ruler of the world. Therefore son of Kunti ! stand up and set your

aim, and firmly engage in battle.

The point here is that by fulfilling one's duties, the present and

future both are improved, peace prevails in the present, the society

becomes happy, and in worlds beyond one attains a higher status. By

fulfilling one's duties, maintaining equanimity in accomplishments

and failures, one can rise beyond sins and virtues and be freed from

birth and death cycle. Therefore Lord has said -

" Sukh dukh samey krtvaa laabhaalaabhau jayaajayou

Tato yudhyaa yujjyasva naivam paapmavaapyasi. " (Gita 2:38)

" Maintaining equanimity in victory - failure, gains - losses,

happiness - sorrow, you must engage in battle. Fighting in this

manner, by fulfilling your duty, you will not incur any sin.
