Guest guest
PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA! VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 63 COURTESY: SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO " NAAYAMATMA BALAHINENA LABHYAHA " " A weak person cannot discover his soul " is an ancient adage which carries a world of significance deserving our serious consideration. A weak man (bala heena) may be defined, as the one with a poor physique or poor mental power or as the one equally poor in both aspects. It is said here that it is given only to a strong man to discover his soul. This may sound strange, as we often hear the importance of love, generosity, honesty, loyalty, and other qualities being stressed upon and it is in this text only the novel idea exhorting people love physical and mental strength is stressed and what for? This is a very significant Vedic exhortation that seems very mundane, but a link is established between the temporal and spiritual worlds. Some saints deriding this world and looking for the heavenly pleasures didn't care for the body and allowed it to go sick. Here comes the warning that such concept does not yield success to the aspirant. Lord is the centre of core of strength and how can his followers turn out to be the sick and weaklings. Of- course, this does not intend man to seek for a boxer's body or computerized mind. This text suggests that the normal strength is to be maintained to enable the aspirant to reach his ultimate goal of salvation. In this context the words of Swami Vivekananda to have strong muscles like iron and nerves like steel and mind like thunder are worthy of remembrance.
