PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA!

VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 71

COURTESY: SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO

" BHAVAA SUNEETHIHI "

-RIGVEDA 6-47-7

" May you be (bhava) a person of good morals (suneethi) " . This great

Vedic exhortation inspiring man to possess high morals in life is a

timeless and eternal teaching on the importance of ethical values in

life.

A nation with its people, observing high ethical standards in their

daily life, flourishes and exists long. On the other hand world

history offers us lessons, how vast, great kingdoms of the world

that once created history, disintegrating lack pack of cards because

of its feet of clay. The Achilles heel lay in the immoral people

leading to the inevitable fall from its glorious heights. History

is replete with instances of kingdoms razed to the ground, as the

rulers led lives of abysmal indulgence.

This Vedic adage " May you keep up your morals " is relevant not only

relevant rulers, statesman and politicians but also to the

individual, as it is only, the individual that forms the nation.

People with disciplined orderly lives, following doctrines of

ethics, or state laws, form a boon to the nation leading to its

glory and continued existence.

It may be seen that this Vedic saying is also equivalent to every

mother's exhortation to her children to follow morals. No mother

would feel happy to find her children following immoral ways. Hence

Vedas are also termed as Vedic Mother (Veda Matha) giving worthy

guidelines leading towards a glorious life of her children.
