VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 74 COURTESY: SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO " MAATAA BHOOMIHI, PUTRO AHAM PRIDHIVYAAHA " --ATHARVANA VEDA 12-1-1-12 " Earth is my mother (Maataa bhoomihi); I am its son (Putro Aham Pridhivyah): Man is considered as the son o this earth. What more ecological or environmental concept can there be than this great ancient script is. It has timeless value and is of great importance to the man even in the modern times. `Sons of the soil', the term freed from its parochial concept is the basic concept of man. Hence man should do everything to help promote the productivity of earth. He should also promote this habitat, increasing the flora and fauna. He should desist from doing things that affect the ecological balance of the earth for selfish motives. If the earth is viewed as mother (Maataa bhoomihi) man can not be taking steps leading to ecological imbalance like deforestation and destroying the habitats of animals, birds and fish. Man is the but the son of earth and should show immense regard to its ecology. Some of the astronauts looking out at our earth once remarked " how beautiful our earth looks from here "
