Historical Precedent

 

The Hindu Temple of Nebraska, LTD, is proud to announce the

appointment of Dr. Frank Morales, Ph.D. (Sri Dharma Pravartaka

Acharya) as the Resident Scholar and Acharya of our temple.

 

Throughout the long history of the Hindu religious tradition, Hindu

temples have customarily had an officiating Acharya – or resident

teacher – who was responsible for the education and spiritual

guidance of the community, and for conducting spiritual teaching,

classes, and instruction. It is in the spirit of this ancient Hindu

tradition that the Hindu Temple of Nebraska has created this office.

 

Even though Hindu temples have existed in America for many decades

now, this appointment represents the first time in American history

that any of the over 1000 existing Indian Hindu temples has

officially appointed an Acharya to over see their educational

activities. While this is an ancient office in India, it is a first

time occurrence in the West. Moreover, it is also a groundbreaking

development that this first ever Acharya is not of Indian origin, but

is a practicing American Hindu of Italian and Spanish ethnicity.

 

About Dr. Morales

 

Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya (Dr. Frank Morales) has been a

practicing Hindu for the last 30 years. After living the life of a

celibate Hindu monk for six years, Dr. Morales was initiated as a

Hindu priest in India in 1986. Dr. Morales went on to earn a B.A. in

philosophy & theology from Loyola University Chicago; and an M.A. and

Ph.D. in Hindu Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Today, Sri Acharyaji is recognized universally as one of the world's

leading scholars on Hinduism; as a highly authentic and traditional

Hindu Acharya; and as one of the most dynamic, revolutionary, and

fearless Hindu leaders on the world scene. He is the President-

Acharya of the International Sanatana Dharma Society. His life is

wholly dedicated to teaching Sanatana Dharma. His followers and

supporters number in the thousands and come from both the Indian and

non-Indian communities.
