VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 100

COURTESY SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO

" SWADESO BHUVANATRAYAM "

-ADI SANKARACHARYA

Adi Sankaracharya was one of three Acharyas, " Trimatacharays " that

established three schools of thought interpreting man's relation

with God. Adi Sankaracharya enunciated Adwaita philosophy (man and

God are one only). Srimad Ramanujacharya established Vishista

Adwaita Philosophy ( man and God are one but the union stands

unique) and Sri Madhva Charaya founded the Dwaita school of

philosophy, indicating man and God are two distinct entities and can

never be one.

The great Sankaracharya in his charters tic style of Advita equating

man to that of God. " I am the God " Aham Brahmasmi " " Thou are

that " Tatva Masi " , is said to have uttered these words of the

present text. " Swadesa bhuvana trayam " in moments of great holiest

ecstatic state meaning " All the three worlds are my own. The three

lokas or worlds (Bhuvana Trayam) signify Bhoor, bhuva, Ssuvar Lokas.

Sankaracharya as a boy approached a master with a request to teach

him and the teacher asked the boy who he was. Sankaracharya with

his nucleic thought of oneness with God even at that tender age

replied " Na Bhoomi, Na Toyam, Na Tejo, Na Vaayuh, meaning " I am

not the earth, not the water, not the light, not the air "

Sankaracharya meant that he was above all possessions of man

equating himself to God. This forms part of a Dasa Sloki, the ten

slokas. These were very much praised by Master Sudhama Saraswathi.
