Guest guest
PRIYA BHAGAVAT BADNDUVAULLARA! VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 103 COURTESY SHRI RAPARLA JANARADHANA RAO " SUBHAM BHAVATHU " " These two simple words of greeting or blessing constitute the very core of Vedic blessing. The word " Subham " connotes a world of meaning and significance which makes difficult to find a suitable, appropriate synonym in English. Can we call " good fortune " or " great fortune " as its substitute in English? May be its very near to the Holy Sanskrit term. But the Sanskrit `Subham' indicates not only fortune, of the world, but implies the blessings of Heaven. Hence the blessing or `Aseervad' is expressed by seniors when juniors offer respects. Blessing is " Subham Bhavatu " " May you obtain all the Heavenly blessings " . This is the context when we should know the different types of blessings to be given to the juniors who bow to the elders touching the feet according to the established classic system of Vedic cult. It teaches them humility, respect to the elders and to the culture and knowledge. " Deerghayushman Bhava " may you live long (to men) " Deergha Sumangalee Bhava (to a married woman to live long with her husband) " Seeghrame Supurtra Paraptirastu (May you be blessed with a child soon) are some of the blessings we should know to offer. " Sakala Aiswarya prapatirastu " (may you be blessed with all the fortunes of the world) is another blessing- Aseervad. And finally a simple Vedic blessing " Subham Bhavatu " selected for elaboration here, at the end of these posts, wishing all the readers " Subham Bhavatu " " May you have all the good fortune " .
