Guest guest
Qualities of a Person Who Attained Yoga Question: What should a man do to attain Yoga (Union with Supreme Consciousness)? He should raise himself by his own Self and should not degrade himself; because his own Self is his own friend and his own Self is his own enemy. (Gita 6:5) Question: How is his own self his friend and his enemy? To him who has conquered his lower self i.e. he who does not accept his affinity with the unreal, for him, his own Self is his friend; but to him who has not conquered his lower self i.e. who has accepted his affinity with the unreal, his own self is his enemy (Gita 6:6) Question: What happens when his own self is his own friend ? The one who has conquered his Self, such a self-controlled one, remains unaffected and perfectly calm, when faced with situations and circumstances resulting from his past deeds, such as, favorable and unfavorable; success and failure, honor and dishonor. Rather he realizes the Supreme Consciousness. (Gita 6:7) Question: What is the mark of a man who has attained God? His inner being is at all times contented and satisfied with knowledge (jnana) and self-realization (vijnana). All his senses are subdued and under his control. Under all situations and circumstances, he remains unshaken. To him a clod of mud, a stone and a piece of gold, are all the same. Such a yogi is called equanimous. Not just with things, but he also regards well-wishers, friends, enemies, neutrals, mediators and hateful, the relatives, the ascetics and sinners, all alike. Such a man with equanimity, stands supreme. (Gita 6:8-9)
