Guest guest
Yagnopaveetam is worn by those who are entitled forwearing it. The entitlement comes through a ceremonycalled Upanayanam in the Hindus belonging to the varnas- Brahmana, Kshatriya and Vysya. The parents aresupposed to perform this ceremony at a suitable age inthe early child hood of their son. This would increaselongevity of the child warding him off from theinfantile mortality, giving him physical and mentalstrength through his worship of Sun God using GayatriMantra for which he would be initiated during hisUpanayanam. Yagnopaveetham is worn to purify oneself to attain theeligibility to perform his Nityakarmanushtanam and toperorm the Karmas prescribed in Vedas for his Varna. Yagnopaveetam is not a permanent ornament. It may getsoiled and it may lose its sanctity if one touches awoman in her monthly periods, or if he touches acorpse, or if he mourns for some dear one who passedaway (Mrutaashoucahm) or if he is under tensive minddue to his kith and kin begetting a child (calledJaataashoucham} Under these conditions and beforeperforming any Yagna one would change theYagnopaveetam . Once a month, particularly on a Newmoon day, one has to change his Yagnopaveetam. There is a mantra to be uttered at the time ofchanging the Yagnopaveetam.. The Mantra and itsmeaning are provided in the attachment yagnop.pdffile. Interested readers may read it and get benefited bythe same.Your comments and suggestions to improve this articlewould be appreciated.
