Dear Murthy Garu,

Love and Love alone....

First of all, my salutations to you from the bottom of my heart for this

wonderful posting. It is indeed one of the best articles I read in TBP so far.

It was a treat not only to the eyes to read, but also to the mind to contemplate

and emulate and ultimately get out of the birth-death cycle. The basic teaching

of Gita is Tyaga. Whatever we do, whether it is mundane or spiritual, let that

be done with a sincere feeling of renunciation. If renunciation is implemented

with all sincerity and seriousness, all other tendencies will simply melt away.

Once again, thank you very much for the ignition. May God Bless You.

Let me also try to explain in my own humble way. Fire burns, sugar tastes and

sweet, hurt pains, etc. etc. Like wise, Srimad Bhagavad Gita (SBG) teaches those

qualities, inculcating and imbibing them, we get back to our original nature of

a human being. Undoubtedly, these qualities are our original traits, but we

forgot, having allowed ourselves to be allured by this glittering world. These

qualities are, Vairagya, Tyaga, Unconditional Love, Complete Surrender, Nishkama

Karma, etc., to quote and SBG is the repository of teachings to acquire them in

this life itself. We, having started the journey, got scared like Arjuna, are

struggling in our own way to reach and realise the Truth.

Now coming to another aspect related to it, we have four purusharthas, i.e.,

Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Kindly see the way the words have been arranged.

The base of the two sandwiched purushardhas (i.e., Artha and Kama) to become

eligible for the last one, i.e., Moksha, is Dharma. Without following Dharma,

you may earn money and fulfil your desires, but you are not eligible for Moksha.

That is the reason, Adi Sankaracharya deplores in Bhajagovindam, says " Punarapi

Jananam, Punarapi Maranam..... " One has to be very careful in one's attitude and

dealings so that one's earnings and the resultant fulfilment of desires are on

the basis of dharma only, AND NOT THE OTHER WAY, to become eligible to get an

entry point into Moksha.

That is precisely the reason, our Sanatana Dharma or Hindu Dharma lays more

emphasis on Tyaga and Prema, without which you will not attain the Ultimate. " Na

Karmana Prajaya Dhanena Tyagenaika Amrutatwamanushuh " says our Samskruthi. Not

by deeds (good or bad), nor by progeny, nor by money, power, and nor by any

other means, but only by Tyaga, one realises the Ultimate Truth, the Nectar. One

reaches the Jeevan Muktha stage only through Tyaga Bhavana.

The other side points, which are equally important, of Tyaga are:

Nothing is renounced by the RENUNCIATION. RENUNCIATION OR TYAGA is just up a

gradation of the vision; and not running away or go to sleep or in jungles. Sri

Ram Krishna Paramahamsa is an example, Einstein is an example.

cleared the examination of class 5 and goes to class 6, this is\nthe

renunciation from class 5 as there was nothing left to be known or working\nin

that place. This does not means that the student should not have gone to\nclass

5, and after he is in class 6, he is not unlearnt of class 5. In

another\nexample, if a person is head of an Indian company, and gets an

opportunity in a\ntop MNC in US with global responsibilities, his experience of

older egos and\nrelationships and bondages of experiences is unnecessary.

Further to it, when\nthis person becomes knower of entire universes, past and

Einstein,\nRam Krishna, and Plank.

Bhagwat Gita does not ask for renunciation initially, and asks Arjun\nto do his

process of GUNA by the KARMA, JYAN and BHAKTI. " ,1] ); //--> Lincoln is an

example. These great men and women do not value a lot of things that most of us

value and cannot live without. Einstein did know how much his salary should

be. He often did not understand what to do with cheques received from people,

and used it as book mark.

Now the question is, what one should renounce?

1) The sense of false proprietorship because everything belongs to God.

2) The Kartavya dharma because one has to discharge one's duties with love and

bhakti, renouncing the results thereof.

man mana bhava mad bhakto

mad yaji mam namaskuru

Bhaktiya mam abhijanati

yavan yascasmi tattvataha

3) One should renounce the desire for name, fame, distinction, etc. They only

condition one to samsara.

4) One should renounce false renunciation or rejecting things that are not

meant for God. One has to be careful about one's own inner-thoughts, expressions

and actions, whether they are really born out of renunciation or just show-off.

Thus, real renunciation is Manasa, Vacha and Karmana.

Moksha is renunciation. It is like retirement from employment without any

further desire to know or work. When there is no desire left, any work is called

love. Manifestation of ego such as fear, anger, greed, pride, calculations,

accounting, scheduling etc. become irrelevant. All knowledge becomes effortless,

and every one finds peace.

Moksha in other words is called detachment. For example, if your neighbour is

killed in an accident, you may be not so much worried. But if a injury is caused

to your son, you will get too much worried. This means, the ‘worry’ is not

proportional to amount of the loss but to the amount of attachment. You are more

attached to your son, so worry will be increased; and a big loss (a person

killed in neighbourhood) will not count as there is no attachment. This is

example of moksha or detachment.

Attachment and detachment are step by step. If you get detached from lower

job, only then you can apply and get attached to higher job. Similarly, people

can improve in step by step, and get detached, and then attached, and this cycle

repeats all the time till nothing is left to be attached, and the man becomes

‘Brahman’.

Dvitiyaad vai bhayam bhavati, which means certainly fear is born of duality.

Duality born out of false identification. Can we negate the Truth? Can we stop

the Sun from shining by putting hand over our eyes? Can we realise the Truth or

reach the Reality by simply denouncing or condemning the other? What is the way

out then? As far as I am concerned, the only way out is to do anything and

everything with Love and Tyaga. In fact, Love includes Tyaga too, but I am

putting Tyaga separately next to Love is only to emphasise the fact that we

should not get into that love, which is with expectation - a barter system. Love

for Love alone. It is easy to get provoked and retort or comment upon on others

approach, but it is very difficult to look into one's own self and realise where

we are going wrong and what steps should we initiate to stem the rot, before it

becomes a dreaded habit. Here, I would like to quote the great saint, Sri

Ramskkh Das ji's words, which I read only today: I quote: Pride is at the root

of seeing faults in others. Also, impurities

in inner senses, makes us see faults. We have no right to think of others as

bad. By not seeing others as bad, solid and pervasive goodness automatically

arises from within. To remove our flaws, to protect our innocence, we should

not see faults in any one, neither in ourselves nor in others. Therefore, let

us not see faults in others, as no one benefits from this " . Unquote

Also let me quote excerpts from the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, Page 191 - The

Master Said:

" Some people indulge in quarrels, saying, 'One cannot attain anything unless one

worships our Krishna', or, 'Nothing can be gained without the worship of KAlee,

our Divine Mother', or, One cannot be saved without accepting the Christian

religion.' This is pure dogmatism. The dogmatist says, 'My religion alone is

true, and the other religions are false.' This is a bad attitude. God can be

reached by different paths. "

It is a lengthy reply, but kindly bear with me. It is necessary to make my

views clearly resounding, so that " Tyaga " is brought back to its pristine glory.

As of now, most of us are struggling with the term " Tyaga " and its real meaning.
