Read the following brief explanation on Mind and other equipments

that we have as human beings. I liked it. I am sharing it with you

all hoping that it would be useful to every one of us.

Mind and Sense

 

Human beings have three equipments. 1) Physical body to perform

action (The gross body) 2) Emotional feeling and sentiments at the

level of mind 3) Thought at the level of intellect. Mind is subtle

in nature when compared to gross physical body. Hence it is called

subtle body . When compared to mind, intellect is still subtler

because the the very thought raises from the intellect level. Since

the very cause of ignorance raises as thought at the level of

intellect, it is called causal body. All the three equipments are as

it is inert in nature with out any life in it . Just like without

Electricity , the filament in the bulb cannot function of it sown,

these three equipment without the substratum behind all these three

equipments which is the SELF, the Pure-consciousness, the Brahman,

the Atman, the Awareness, Allah of Islam, the Father of Jesus

Christ, Sunya of Buddhism, our own True nature, it cannot function

of its own. Hence without the 4th factor ,which is the enlivening

Principle , the Spirit , the three equipments will not function.

When a person starts inquiring 'what is God?, who is God? Who am I?,

What is the purpose of this life etc?, his subtle intellect starts

getting awakened.

 

So man has 1)Physical body, 2) subtle body(mind), 3) Gross intellect

(Causal body) 4) subtle intellect.(Awakenin g intellect) Whereas

animal has 1)Gross body 2) subtle body (mind) 3) rudimentary gross

intellect only. That is the reason, human being is the only creature

in the world who has a capacity to realize his own true nature and

go back to his own origin by Consciously realizing the same.

 

Without the above said back ground, I would like to answer your

question now. Physical brain is also a physical body. The root cause

is in the mind. Whenever the mind is affected, not only the brain ,

entire physical body will get affected. That is the power of the

mind. Through mind one can suffer. Through the same mind, one can

escape also. It depend upon where our focus is ? If our focus is

always in the world, mind will dominate over the intellect and we

will suffer bodily, mentally and intellectually . On the other hand

If our focus is on the Truth, the Atman, within, after gaining the

Knowledge of the Supreme Self, and develop un-shakable faith, the

subtle intellect gets awakened and sharpen the gross intellect while

handling the physical world. Sharpened intellects controls the mind

and gives proper direction to mind. Thus mind is under the control

of the intellect which helps in achieving the higher purpose of

life . That is why Swami Vivekananda said 'Control your mind' you

can control the world.'

 

So brain is subtler than the whole physical body; mind is subtler

than brain; The Atman, the Brahman, the Pure consciousness, is

subtlest than the mind and intellect. The Law is subtle can control

the gross. Gross cannot control the subtle.
