Guest guest
Dear Devotees in TBP, Love and Love alone... In a series of posts, I would like to reproduce the small booklet on the above subject penned by Pujya Swami Chinmayananda. In this booklet, Swami Chinmayananada defines true education with an example of a scriptural text. " True Education " says Swamiji, " begins with discrimination " , and it enables man to fight all the complex challenges of life. For this, man will have to reeducate himself with the import of the scriptures. One can being with Bhaja Govindam, a simple, yet comprehensive text that rips open the hollowness of worldly attachments and leads one from insanity to equanimity. I hope you all enjoy reading the postings. Love and Love alone.... P. Gopi Krishna Here is the first post: 1. True education enables us to lead a simple, sanctified and harmonious life. It is not the education which we gain in our elementary and degree classes, but it is the education ofhte intellect in order to analyse the mind logically. True education makes a man a better entity, a more powerful and cheerful man everyday in his pursuit of success whatever sphere of activity he may find himself in. The greatest philosopher known to the Hindus is Krishna, and He had an eternal joy and delight even in the worst circumstances He had to face. A true education of the intellect is necessary to develop human personality into a radiant image of divine perfection. The blazing fire of aspiration if inevitable for the discovery of the Truth. The goal to be reached in Vedanta which is the state of perfection or Godhood, is beyond the intellect. It has to be experienced and as such the intellect has only a limited part to play. It is faith which helps the student of Vedanta to go beyond the intellect and experience the Reality. In fact even to begin with, one must have a certain amount of faith in the scriptures. But in the modern world faith is looked down upon, and, therefore, the study becomes all the more difficult. So one has to tackle many problems in order to bring about a new orientation in one's outlook on life through a true education. To start with, even to go and listen to the scriptures from a learned guru one needs faith. So the problems start from the beginning. If one lacks faith in the scriptures, listening to be learned guru will not make impressions upon a student. Contd....
