Guest guest
3. The mind is freakish like a baby. It is the instrument of our cognizing things that are " not " in both the waking and the dream states. Therefore, the remedy lies in the perfect control of the mind through a steady reeducation of it. Mind is to be controlled in its tendency to roam about as it lilkes among the sense-objects seeking joy and satisfaction and it to be reeducated to renounce its false fears, fantastic desires, illusory sorrows and fancied joys. Hence the intellet should be trained to control the mind to recognise the Highest. The function of the intellet is " discrimination " which is otherwise called the faculty of right " understanding " . A true intellect must have the right " understanding " to discriminate between what is to be feared and what is not to be feared. Acharya Sankara speaks of four qualifications necessary for spiritual attainment. One must have discrimination, spirit of renunciation and dispassion, faith in the instructions given to us by our teachers. One msut also have possibilities in attaining the goal and always practise self- surrender. The longing to have a direct contact with the Infinite must be there. True education brings about internal harmony in every individual and proper adjustmetn to his environment. A spiritual seeker must constantly strive hard to stand apart from the shackling effects of the environments. According to the Geeta, man is the master of circumstances. To the extent that he comes to assert this mastery, to that extent he is evolved. Contd....
