May you be endowed with the spirit of enquiry till you rest in the

Infinite Brahman. – Yoga Vasistha

ANDAL'S LOVE: Andal was the only woman among the dozen Alwar

Vaishnavite saints of South India during 8th to 10th centuries. In

one of her poems, she envies the conch for the proximity the shell

enjoys to the divine lips of Sri Vishnu. She says: Although you were

born in the salted sea, this is forgiven and forgotten all because

of the present company you keep. Tell me, O conch, are His lips

sweet? (Andal's story appeared in the March 2004 issue of this

magazine.)

All people want is someone to listen. – Huge Elliott

TAKING A VOW: Vows bring us into direct relationship with the

Divine. As befits any action relating to the Divine, we treat a vow

with utmost respect and care. A vow should neither be too easy nor

too difficult. It is better to vow some easily verifiable outward

action. The making and keeping vows strengthens our spirit, creates

a positive self-confidence, diminishes attachment and clinging,

organizes our energies, develops our soul, unifies our will, and

serves the Sacred. A completed vow increases both our freedom and

our potential to play a more useful role in the drama of the

evolving world. – Joseph Naft
