Manifested and Unmanifested is God

Those who believe that God remains only formless, that He never

manisfests in a form, their thinking is absolutely wrong; because

all beings continue to become formless (unmanifested) and later take

on a form (manifested).

The point is that all beings were first unmanifested, in middle they

became manifested in a form, and later they become unmanifested

(Gita 2:28) again. Even this earth has two faces, manifested and

unmanifested. From a gross perspective, it is with form

(manifested), and from a subtle perspective it is formless

(unmanifested). Even water is unmanifested as it permeates

everywhere, yet in the form of frost, clouds, hail, etc it is with

form. Wind that can be touched and felt in a storm, hurricane etc is

manifested, whereas subtlely present in atmosphere, it is

unmanifested. Fire too in the form of lighting of a candle is

manifested, whereas, present in wood, coal etc is formless. It is

only through the use of some instrument that it takes on a

manifested form.

In this manner all of creation, becomes formless and later manifests

into a form. At the time of great destruction, it becomes formless,

and at time of the great creation, it once again takes on a form.

When all beings can become manifested and unmanifested, when this

earth, water, fire etc. can take on a form and later become

formless, this entire creation too can become manifested and later

become unmanifested, then can God too not become manifested in a

form and become unmanifested ? What obstacles does God have in

taking on a form or remaining formless ?

Therefore God has said in the Gita, that " Mayaa tatmidam sarvam

jagadvyakt murtinaa, " (Gita 9:4). This entire Universe is a

manifestation from My unmanifest form. God, by saying " mayaa " (My)

form and used " Avyaktmurtinaa " to express unmanisfested (formless).

In Gita 7:24, God has said that those who only believe Me to be

unmanifested (formless), i.e. not with form, are ignorant; and those

who only believe Me to be with form (manifested), they too are

ignorant; because both of them do not realize my Eternal Being, My

inner expression.
