INTRODUCTION

We all lead a hectic life full of events and acations. If during the

course of our activities, we attend motivational and spiritual

talks, we usually feel elated while listening to the speakers and

fully participate and understand the topics discussed. Often the

speakers take us to great spiritual heights, which gives us a sense

of peacae. But somehow, the moment we walk out of the auditorium and

reach home to our surroundings, it's almots as if we put on

our 'usual' mantle and get into all our activities. And very soon,

we forget the teachings and get engrossed in our anxieties, anger,

sorrow, and desires and get caught into the world of objects. So

what happens to us? Why are we not able to bring our (spiritual)

knowledge into action when we most need it? Why do we get angry and

upset when things don't go the way we expect? What is it that stops

us? Tht which stops us, blinds us and binds us is 'Ego' or Ahankara.

So what is this Ego? Why does it interfere so much and prevent us

from being happy and peaceful? We explore some of tehse questions.

After enquiry, and analysis, we suggest some ways to manage this

unreal mask called 'ego' and make it work for us so that we

understand the 'Truth'.

In order to explain the significance of some of the more elusive

ideas, we illustrate the important points with entertaining stories

from real life and mythology. Wherever approprite, we have used

Sanskrit verses from well-known texts.

It is intended for all age groups including spiritual seekers,

interested in leading a meaningful and happy life devoid of sorrows,

conflicts, and anxieties. The goal is to educate, and inspire all

those who seek higher goals. We call it a manual as it can be used

as a reference whenever the need arises. We will be truly rewarded

if it proves useful to those who are genuinely trying to reach

the 'Truth, which is the supreme goal.
