Another meaning for RUTHU is Manmattha and His consort Rathi Devi.

Manmattha and Rathi Devi are Dieties of Spring , Vasantha Ruthuvu ,

Life , Creation , Regeneration , Rejuvenation and Birth.

 

Lord`Shiva and Mother Paarvathi Devi are in deep Meditation in

Kailaasam . The Seasons are Hemantha Ruthuvu and Sisira Ruthuvu ,

inopportunate seasons. Manmattha - Rathi Devi chose the wrong time

and they were assisted and abetted by Vasantha and Vaasanthi.

 

Lord Shiva's Penance was interrupted . Mother Paarvathi Devi was

helpless and remained a mute Spectator. Lord Shiva was so Angry

and Opened HIS Third Eye ( Agni , The Eye of Fire ) . Lo and Behold

Mamnmattha was turned into ashes - this is Ruthu Samhaaram.

 

Rathi Devi , Vaasanthi and Vasantha beseeched Lord Shiva and all the

Celestials prayed Lord Shiva to restore the Life of Manmattha.

Lord Shiva , Ever The Compassionate , agreed , but HE was too wary to

Restore the Beautiful Physical Body of The Cupid Manmattha and

Ordained that Manmattha will be visible only to Rathi Devi and to the

rest of Celestials as well as mortals Manmattha will be a Feeling , an

emotion and a righteous creative energy .

 

Vasantha Ruthuvu Set in and Lord Shiva Blessed Mother Paarvathi Devi

and Humanity with a Son - Kumaara Sambhavam aka SubrahmaNya Birth.

Agni Dev , Gangaa Maatha and Saptha Maathrukas took care of Kumaara

and Kaarthikeya Lord SubrahmaNya assumed the role of Commander Chief

of All Celestial Forces.

 

Ruthu Samhaaram resulted in Kumaara Sambhavam . They are only Two

Aspects of Reality - Death will be followed by Birth and Vice Versa.

However severe Winter , Spring is sure to follow and more beautiful.

 

Jaathasya MaraNam Dhruvam - MaraNasya Jaatham Dhruvam . Om Shaanthi.
