Guest guest
In order to identify the essence of these three egos, let us explore further by analysing the function of the intellect. Let us understand this with an example. Suppose we have a choice of two activities for the evening, attending a discourse or attending a discotheque. As both options are interesting, the mind is unable to decide and contacts the intellect, which in turn reaches out to the memory or CHITTA, which is a storehouse of all past experiences about both these activities. Based on the information supplied by the memory, the intellect discriminates between the two experiences and we then act according to the ultimate decision made by the intellect. Let us took at the three stages of our thinking process: 'I' (the mind) cannot decide, 'I' remember the past experiences (through memory), 'I' (the intellect) decide the course of action. Thus 'I' (Ahankara or Ego) is a common denominator in all the three stages of our thinking process. This 'I', the Ego, is the topic! What drives this 'I'? What is it that enlivens this 'I'? Tht which enlivens this 'I' is defined as 'Consciousness'. Contd...
