About the Gopis, Their Divine Love and Divine Form

 

That love that is capable of giving immense joy and bliss to God is

not in qualities and attributes, but is in that which is without

qualities and attributes. God who is without qualities and

attributes, is craving for that Love, then how can that love be with

qualities and attributes? Just like God's body is divine, it is not

with qualities, similarly the body of the Gopis had also become

divine. There was no remaining traces of qualities and attributes in

the Gopis.

 

Even God with form does not possess qualities such as sattva

(purity), rajas (passion), and tamas (inertia); yet He possesses

divine qualities such as glories, sweetness, beauty, generosity,

etc. Therefore worship of God with a form, is also expressed as

worship of the formless. Just like it is said " Manniketam tu

nirgunam, " (Srimad Bhagvat 11:25:25). " Matsevaayaam Tu Nirgunaa "

(Srimad Bhagvat 11:25:27), etc.

 

By worshipping God, one becomes free of qualities. The point is that

on having a relationship with God, the sattva (purity), rajas

(passion) and tamas (inertia), qualities do not remain. That is, the

bodies that were in " Raaslila " , those bodies were not like our

bodies with qualities, rather they were like God's divine body, free

of the three gunas (attributes - sattva, rajas and tamas). In other

words they were divine. All the Gopis that had participated in the

Raaslila per Lord's wishes and they had gone there only after taking

on a form filled with divine expressions. Therefore the husbands of

the Gopis saw their bodies with qualities and attributes sleeping

next to them in their homes. " Manyamaanaah svapaarshvasthaan swaan

swaan daaraan vrajaukasah, " (Sriamad Bhagwat 10:33:38).

 

The point is that those Gopis that did not feel the fire of deep

longing and feeling of separation, their bodies with attributes

remained next to their husbands, but just like one who has attained

salvation, there was no relationship left with the body, simply

there was awareness of the body. Whereas those Gopis that had

intense fire and feeling of separation, they were totally unaware of

their bodies with qualities, therefore where does the question arise

about them having a relationship with their bodies, because for them

from time immemorable there was no relationship with qualities and

attributes, which are the main cause of birth and death.
