a new dawn,

the night has passed,

the night-queen has faded,

the sun is up,

and the lotus is abloom!

 

With ash smeared over their bodies,

the saffron-clad ascetics

announce the new dawn,

blowing their conches

at the temple.

 

Have you already forgotten?

You said, you'll be

the first to rise today,

and then wake us all

from our slumber.

 

Shameless show-off!

You're still curled in your bed.

 

Wake up,

to worship

the handsome Lord,

who protects us,

with a conch in one hand,
