WHY THE MAHARSHI HAD TO BEAR PHYSICAL SUFFERING TOWARDS THE END OF

HIS EARTHLY LIFE?

 

Once David Godman, the famous chronologist of Sri Ramana devotees,

asked Papaji, a well-known and staunch devotee of the Maharshi, `Can

a jnani take away the sins of other people?' Papaji replied, `Of

course, he can. This is what happened in case of Ramana Maharshi.

That is why he got so sick towards the end of his life. He was taking

on the karma of the people around him and experiencing it as physical

diseases.' He added, `Shortly before the Maharshi died one of his

women devotees went up to him and said, " Bhagavan, you always share

everything that comes to you. Why don't you share this suffering with

us? If you give us all a little piece of it, it will not affect you

so much " . Bhagvan laughed and replied, " Whom do you think gave me
