Guest guest
It is Not Essential to Engage in Guru-Disciple Relationship for Spir Arjun used to be with Krishna at all times; he used to eat-drink, sit- rise, sleep-awake with Lord Krishna; but Lord Krishna gave him the message of the Gita, when within Arjun was awakened the desire for salvation, for upliftment, for realization - " yacchreyah syaanniscintam bruhi tanme " (Gita 2:7). I entreat you, tell me what is decidely good for me. (Gita 2:7). It was only when this desire was awakened within Arjun, that he considered himself to be a disciple, a student of Lord Krishna seeking guidance (sishya). It was then that he took refuge in God and prayed for instructions and guidance " Shishyasteham shaadhi maam tvaam prapannam. " (Gita 2:7) " I am your disciple. Do instruct me, who has taken refuge in You. " (Gita 2:7). In this way it was after the desire for upliftment, salvation was awakened, that Arjun considered him self as God's disciple, and prayed for instructions and guidance. It was not due to the age-old established Guru-Disciple customs and observances (paramapara) that he considered God as his Guru. Also it is not that according to the scriptural injunctions God made Arjun a disciple, and after giving him Guru mantra, after placing His hand on Arjun's head, that Lord Krishna gave Arjun instructions. It was not at all like this. From this it clarified that in spiritual upliftment it is not essential to engage in Guru-disciple relationship, but one's intense quest, one's intense longing for one's own salvation is absolutely essential. When one has intense longing for one's own salvation, by God's grace, by the words of saints and great souls, through the scriptures, through sacred and holy books, through certain incidents and circumstance, through some divine aura / intervention, on it's own divine messages leading to divinity and spiritual upliftment and related techniques for spiritual practices become available and the seeker is able to absorb them.
