AATHREYA - Kauravas and Paandavas

 

 

 

Kauravas and Paandavas both belong to Chandra Vamsa

 

Kuru Royal Dynasty. originating with Puroorava , son of

 

Budha and Ila .

 

 

 

Kauravas are also known as Dhaartharaashtras.

 

Paandavas are refered to as Kauntheyas and Maadreyas.

 

 

 

Since their childhood the cousins Kauravas and Paandavas

 

did not get on well. As a Telugu saying goes , even green

 

grass if thrown between them would catch fire.

 

 

 

Is this state of affairs is because of constant comparison and

 

evaluation of one's virtues and faults with the other's.,

 

constant pointing of fingers and finally an underlying current

 

of sympathy towards father less Paandavas.

 

 

 

This misgiving tragic state of affairs ultimately led to

 

Kurukshethra war in which all Kauravas except Yuyutsa

 

lost their lives.

 

 

 

Paandava brothers occasionally had some minor bickerings

 

amongst themselves , but ultimately fell in lineunder the

 

Divine guidance of Lord Krishna Vaasudev.

 

 

 

Kauravas except for VikarNa and Yuyutsa were always together ;

 

VikarNa also ultimately returned to the fold and paid with his life.

 

Yuyutsa deserted Kauravas , joined Paandavas and lived .

 

There is some doubt that Yuyutsa may not have been born to

 

Gaandhaari like the rest of Kauravas .

 

Along with 100 Kauravas , their brother in law Sainddhava , husband

 

of Dussala also died in the Great war.

 

 

 

I wonder whether all this could have been avoided if only Bheeshma

 

married again after the death of his step brothers Chithraangada and

 

Vichithraveerya , revoking his owe of celibacy and took over the Kuru

 

Kingdom as per the advice of his step mother Sathyavathi..
