Dear friends and devotees,

Bhakti is eternal.

(Part – 11)

What is the ambition of Maharshi Valmiki in delivering the Kanda with metaphor

of the ultimate spiritual experience?

Any number of floors constructed in a building, it is depending on the

foundation. Likewise, the internal preaching of philosophy in the epic is

interconnected to the outer narration of story. This is more elucidated by Sri

Vedanthadesikulu garu, the famous logical poetic expert (kavitaarkikakesari) in

his Sankalpasuryodaya Drama in one Sloka:

darpOdagra daSaananEndriya manOnaktancaraadhishThitE,

dEhE^smin bhavasindhunaa parivRutE diinaam daSaa maasthitaha,

aadyatvE hanumatsamEna guruNaa sambhOdhitaartha ssudhiih,

lankaaruddha vidEsaaraajatanayaanyaayEna laalasyatE.

Seetha is arrested in Lanka and is in a desperate stage. That Lanka is

surrounded by an unending ocean. Ravana having ten heads is ruling it. He is

very much highhanded. On behalf of Rama, Anjaneya reached there, after crossing

over the big ocean and conveyed her about the embodiment and capacity (prbhava)

of Rama. He consoled her that Rama will conquer all the enemies as early as

possible, discharge her from the prison of Ravana and take her with him. This

is the external story of Sundarakanda. This is superior.

In this part, the spiritual and tatvic (profound) message given by Maharshi

Valmiki is as under:-

The light of the Jivathma (individual soul) is tied with all thapatrias

(botherations) in the body. This body is surrounded by the valley of worldly

life with attachment to the members of the Samsara (family), since time

memorial. This body is controlled by the mind driving towards sankalpa

(inclination) and vikalpa (disinclination), path of pravrutti (justice) and path

of nivrutti (liberation). This is supported by ten Indrias (senses), the

ouddhatyam (peremptory commands) of which cannot be described. The mind is

wavered by these ten senses dragged by bad horses without the controlling ropes.

That body is giving thapathriya (vexation) and sanchobha (torment) to the

jivathma (individual soul) which is filled by punya (merit), pravrutti (justice)

and swantharvarthi (self realisation).

To get vimukti (freedom) from this, the jiva (soul) is striving. By that Guru

has incarnated by the inspiration of God. Though He is also similar to this jiva

(soul), he has conquered the worldly life with attachment to the samsara

(family). Such a guru preaching all about the embodiment of all forms of

bhagavatswaroopa (manifestation of God) bless you to live with that divine

doctrine of Gods. Trusting the preaching of this Guru, the jiva (soul) should

wait leaving the time of body and by the grace of God should be separated from

the bandhas (clenches) of the deha (body), jumping over the ocean of

samsarasagara (family) and reach the feet of God.

This is how, every one should attempt for upliftment by the grace of God

through the preachings of Guru. This is the spiritual inner meaning of

Sundarakanada of Maharshi Valmiki.

Seetha - Jiva (Soul).

Lanka - Body.

Ocean - Samsara Sagara.

Ravana with ten heads. - The vacillating mind with ten indriyas.

Anjaneya - Guru.

Sastry
