The power of Sundarakanda Parayana.

 

(Lord Siva’s words to Goddess Parvathi)

 

umO vuvaacha,

 

1. kaanDasya sundaraakhyasya maahaatmyam tu mahEswara,

SrOtu micchaami tE vaktraa dvistaraacca viSEshataha.

 

SriimahESwara vuvaacha,

 

2 SriimatsundarakaanDasya mahaatmya matigOpitam,

vakshyaami SruNu tE priityaa sangrahENa giriindrajE.

 

3. vistaraa dvaaktu miiSa stat sa Eva raghunandanaha.

 

4. yathaa sarvEshu dEvEshu Sriiraamaha paramO mataha

yathaa sarvEshu vrukshEshu kalpavrukshO hyatuttamaha

 

5. yathaa sarvEshu ratnEshu koustubhaha SlaaghyathE varaha

tathaa raamaayaNE Sriimaan sundaraha kaanDa uttamaha

 

6. paThanaa ccravaNaa dasya bhaktyaa pravacanaa dapi,

sidhyanti siddhayaha sarvaa anarthasca vinasyati,

puuryantE sampadaha sarvaa naSyanti sakalaa gadaaha.

 

7. viSEshatO mahaarOgabhiitaanaam paramoushadam.

 

8. yakshmaapasmaarakushThaadyaa anivaaryaa mahoushadhaihi,

amushya paThanaa dashTashashTikrutvO vidhaanataha,

praNaSyantE na sandEhaha SriiraamakaruNaavaSaat.

 

 

 

 

MEANING.

 

Devi Parvathi asked.

 

1. O Maheswara! I would like to hear from you, the power of

Sundarakanda and its specialty in detail.

 

 

Lord Siva said.

 

2. “O Parvathi: The divine glory of Sunderakanda is so confidential.

Having affection on you, I can only brief you the matter”.

 

3. Sreerama is the only competent to tell it in detail.

 

4. Out of all the Devathas, how Sreerama is considered as great!

Out of all the trees, how the devatha tree (Kalpavruksha) is

considered as great!

 

5. Out of all the diamonds, how “KoustubhamaNi” is considered

as famous! Likewise, in the entire Ramayana Sundarakanda is said

to be the best.

 

6. Who ever, with constant Bhakti read this or hear and make

Pravachana (discourse), they will be relieved with all the

difficulties, get all Sampadas (wealth) and get rid off all diseases.

 

7. In particular, this is the medicine of choice to those suffer from

incurable diseases.

 

8. There is no doubt that the dangerous and incurable diseases like,

tuberculosis, coma and leprosy will be cured by reading this

for 68 times with the blessings of Lord Sreerama.

 

 

The time limit of Sundarakanda Parayana:

 

The parayana can be done during any month and any time; but,

 

CaitrE, maaghE, kaartikE ca sitE pakshE ca vaacyEt.

 

Chaithra, Magha and Karthika months are considered to be more appropriate and

the Suklapaksha (bright half of the month) is superior.

 

According to “Bruhaddharmapurana”,

 

jEshThE tu sundara kaanDam,

 

Parayana is preferable in the month of Jeshta.

 

The same “Bruhaddharmapurana” (purva khanda 26 – 11) states:

 

SraaddhEshu dEvakaaryEshu paThEt sundarakaanDakam.

 

In the course of religious ceremonies and in worshiping of God the Parayana is

considered it’s paramount.
